An Offering

Does it ever seem like everyone else is doing something bigger?  Better?  More impressive?

At times, I'm overwhelmed by how underwhelming I seem to be.  As I read blogs, check statuses on Facebook, and follow feeds on Twitter, it sometimes appears that everyone else is somehow more "with-it" than me....somehow more "on top" of things...somehow, just "more."

But real life is hard to capture in the 140 characters of a tweet.  Or in a status update.  Or even in a more lengthy blog post.  And those snapshot views do not give the whole picture.

Which makes me wonder....
Why do I worry so much about how I compare to others?

Again and again, I am being shown the importance of who I am and what I do, right here and now.

Recently, this verse was shared with me.  And let me tell you, folks:  if really, truly, put into practice - this thing is a game changer!

"So here's what I want you to do, God helping you:
Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping,
eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—
and place it before God as an offering."
Romans 12:1 (The Message)

For if my actions each day are meant as an offering, then all that laundry, all those dishes, all the housework is not menial and meaningless.  It holds untold value.  And I am fulfilling a great purpose.  I am not small, or worse, or unimpressive.

I am right where I am meant to be.

  1. Dropping in from the Write It, Girl link up. Thanks for helping me to reshape my thinking about how I live. It all is an offering. I'd better do my best to make sure it's a willing offering from a sincere place in my heart.

  2. Wow. So true. How very often we compare ourselves to the tiny snapshot of someone else's life.

  3. What great thoughts. I do the same thing with comparing. Or I find myself trying to find something really clever to to say on twitter so people think highly of me. Awful, I know!

I recently gave up twitter & fb for lent and I'm seeing how much I run to that to fulfill something in my life. it's weird!
