Verse of the Week: 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17
For our Verse of the Week project, we created butterflies -
a great symbol of new life!
The girls started by painting coffee filters with watercolors.

Then we drew faces on clothes pins and pinched the coffee filter
inside the clothes pin.
We also added "antenna" made of twisty-ties.
 Our finished products!

Verse of the Week: Matthew 5:43-44

“You have heard that it was said,
‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemies.’
But I say to you
Love your enemies &
pray for those who hurt you.”
Matthew 5:43-44
What a hard verse to impress upon my children!
(Especially when it's so hard for most adults!)
It's against our normal nature to want to love those who hurt us.

Because of the detail in these color sheets,
we kept them out for most of the week.

And each time we sat down to work on them,
I had the opportunity to discuss this verse with the girls.
And perhaps, if I keep explaining it to my children....
I"ll get a better grip on it myself.

*Our Bible verse coloring sheets actually featured a 'sister verse' to
our actual Verse of the Week -- same message, though!*

Verse of the Week: Romans 8:28

“In all things God works for the good
of those who love him.”
Romans 8:28

My creativity was lacking this week, but I found this great coloring sheet for our Verse of the Week!

The girls started by coloring their pictures.  Then we cut pictures apart on the lines like puzzle pieces.

Finally, we put the verses back to together and glued them to another sheet of paper.  The putting-back-together turned out to be a little tricky...but that became our teachable moment!  As we attempted to get the puzzle together, we talked about how sometimes in life, we can't see how everything will work out.  But just like our verse, God knows how the pieces will fit together...and he is working for the good.

Verse of the Week: Ephesians 2:8

For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faithand this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God
Ephesians 2:8

This week, we made a music video with our Verse of the Week.  The quality is pretty poor, but by the chorus (0:24) you can tell that the girls really know this verse!  This is the song "Saved" by the Go Fish Guys, one of my girls' favorite bands!

Verse of the Week - Psalm 27:1

"The Lord is my light and my salvation
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life
of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 27:1
Our "God is light" candles...or torches...or somethings...
This is such a goofy picture, but I guess it's real life!
Lil' N is trying to blow out her light.
And yes, Lil' R is wearing a leotard and a hard hat.

This was one of those projects that seemed better in my head than in reality.  Psalm 27:1 reminded us that God is our light, so we decided to make candles. (Maybe they look more like torches?)  While the project didn't turn out quite like I wanted, the important thing is that the girls are understanding and taking scripture to heart!  We've missed the last several weeks of our "Verse of the Week" due to sick kiddos, and I was happy to find out from the girls how much they've missed it.  I'm glad to know it's sinking in!  Recently, we were listening to the radio as we were driving in the car and heard the song "Everlasting God."  At the end of the song (around 3:50 in the video below) there's a voice reading Isaiah 4:31.  The girls both yelled, "this was a verse of the week!"  That was our very first verse in this project, and they remembered it!  Woo hoo!  Proud mommy moment!

Verse of the Week: Psalm 139:14

How you made me is wonderful and amazing.
What you have done is wonderful.
I know that very well.
Psalm 139:14

{Aha!  The verse of the week project that allowed me to pull out the girls' adorable baby pictures!}

I remember that incredible moment when I first laid eyes on our daughters.
God truly had made them wonderful and amazing.  And as much as I love them, God loves them more.  Those great feelings of love that I have for my girls, God feels that infinitely more for me.  Amazing.....and wonderful.

Verse of the Week: 1 Peter 4:8

“Above all, love each other deeply,
because love covers a multitude of sins.”
1 Peter 4:8

This was a great verse for the week leading up to Valentine's Day!  It was great reminder that love, if we let it, can cover over so many little, petty things!  Below are Lil' R and Lil' N's projects for this week.

I'm linking up our Verse of the Week projects here:

Verse of the Week: Jeremiah 1:5

Lil' R places her words in order. (Note the tongue, stuck out in concentration.)
“Before I formed you in your mother’s body, I choose you.
Before you were born, I set you apart to serve me.”
Jeremiah 1:5

This week's verse came from Jeremiah 1:5.  The girls and I talked about how God put us together.  Then, we put together our verse that I had cut apart, word by word.  I numbered the words on the back, and the girls had a lot of fun putting the words in order.  (Bonus!  We were working on our math skills, as well!)

Hard at work!

What a great thought...that God KNEW ME before I was even formed!  I feel like this was a great project with the kids because as they had to think and plan to put their verses together, it was a great reminder of the thought and care that God took as He created us.

Verse of the Week: 2 Corinthians 4:16

So we do not lose heart.
Though our outer self is wasting away,
our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16

Here's our new verse of the week.  While the girls had a blast with the foamy-heart stickers, it was a bit of a challenge to explain the concept of "inner self" and "outer self" to my 3 and 5 year olds!  But, I tried my best!  And it makes me smile how excited the girls are about each new verse!

Verse of the Week: Isaiah 40:31

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
We started something new this week!  I recently came across the  Little Thoughts by LT blog.  She's hosting a "Verse of the Week," and we've jumped right in.  (Technically, we are a week late, but better late then never!)  I've decided to make the verse of the week our special project.  Yesterday, the girls and I made eagles out of their hand prints and made up actions to go along with the verse.  I'm excited to see what we'll learn together as we go through this year!

Our new "Verse of the Week" display
